BDEA Receives Hyams Foundation "Teen Futures" Grant
The Hyams Foundation has awarded a grant to BDEA to build its transition program, which will support students as they plan for their futures and after they graduate from BDEA.
The goal of this program is to increase BDEA student retention in college and improve success rates for BDEA graduates by providing academic and non-academic support. As described by the Hyams Foundation on their website:
"Teen Futures is addressing the school dropout crisis by supporting organizations or partnerships that improve the success of young people (ages 16-22) who have dropped out of school and are not employed. By focusing on the dropout crisis, the Foundation is also targeting an area of significant racial disparities, as the majority of students dropping out are African American and Latino. Teen Futures’ overall goal is to increase the number of these youth who gain their high school credential and commence a path towards higher education or a career focused training program. This special Teen Development strategy will be accomplished through increasing the quality and the quantity of programs that combine education, skill development and employment.
Teen Futures will be further strengthened through the support of accompanying public policy work, special convenings and communications, organizational capacity building and evaluation. The Foundation anticipates making a total investment of $3 million over the next three years to the Teen Futures Initiative."
Seven Boston and Chelsea based groups were selected to receive this funding. BDEA is deeply grateful to the Hyams Foundation for making this important program possible! For more information on the foundation, please visit their website at www.hyamsfoundation.org
