Student Support Services at BDEA

The Student Support Team (SST) provides a comprehensive range of services to students, parents and teachers. The mission of the Student Support team is to assist students, parents and teachers with services that foster a healthy and positive school community. SST strives to promote positive mental, emotional and social relationships/health in the school community by providing interventions, prevention, advocacy, and education and strengthening communication amongst the school members.  The goal of BDEA student support services is to eliminate as much as possible those personal, social, and emotional  challenges that impede success in schools. Many of our students come to BDEA with previous social, emotional or personal challenges that did not allow them to be successful in their previous schools.

Beginning during the intake process, the SST becomes a vital part of the students educational, personal and social experience. Each student is interviewed during the intake process, assessed for services and provided with an individual development plan. Parents are also strongly encouraged to participate in the orientation process. Student support counselors follow a cohort of students along the journey towards graduation. Communication, guidance, and interpersonal learning are emphazised for all our students. Students are encouraged to participate in community service, to resolve social and emotional conflicts in healthy ways, and to contribute positively to the climate of the school. The Family and Community Outreach Coordinator works closely with parents to support student success.
