Professional Development
Instructional Leadership Team
The mission of the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) is to share communication with the whole school on initiatives that will help build capacity in all staff to reach school-wide goals. ILT is comprised of a representative group of teachers, student support staff and administrators from each program (day, evening and distance learning). The ILT uses data to make informed decisions about programmatic changes. The goals of ILT include: working as a liaison between all staff; advising the leadership team on instructional issues and trends; identifying and troubleshooting areas of concern for the whole school, and overseeing initiatives that maintain and support consistency in the culture of the school.
Professional Development at BDEA
Professional development at BDEA serves multiple purposes - rejuvinating staff, improving instruction, advancing whole-school initiatives, providing professional growth and sharing best practices. Each Friday, two hours are designated specifically for professioal development and staff building. During this time staff either meet as departments or as a school. Staff are also encouraged and supported to participate in individual development either by attending conferences, and workshops or taking college/graduate courses.
Each spring, staff identify the professional development goals and initiatives for the following year. This is done through a combination of looking at student work/data, assessing staff and student needs, and aligning ourselves with our school's accountability plan. From this assessment, the ILT maps out the schdule for how these instructional and student support goals can be met through the allotted PD time on Fridays.
