Amelia Lopes
Amelia comes to BDEA with extensive experience working with youth in the Boston community. She has served as Girl’s Program Director at the Dorchester Youth Collaborative, a Case Manager at the Home for Little Wanderers, and the Family and Community Outreach Coordinator for the Boston Public Schools. In September of 2007, Amelia entered the Boston Teacher Residency Program, where she co-taught in a sixth grade classroom. Amelia is most often students’ introduction to BDEA. She supports new students applying to the school, and runs a full weeklong orientation once per month for incoming students. Amelia also runs the Girls Group for the evening program, facilitating discussions and activities focused on bringing to light prevalent issues that adolescent girls face, creating solutions and providing young women with the tools and resources for healthy self-esteem, self-image, and wise decision-making. Amelia has duel M.Ed. in Education and Moderate Special Education and is currently completing a M.A. in Applied Linguistics/ESL both at the University of Massachusetts in Boston. She also holds a B.A. in Human Services from Cambridge College.
