Faculty and Staff
BDEA's faculty and staff breaks down into leadership team, faculty/instructional staff, student support, and administrative staff.
BDEA's leadership team is comprised of 5 members: the Co-Heads of School, Dean of Student Support, Director of Instruction, and Director of Institutional Advancement. There are 25 faculty members, 8 for the Evening Program, 13 for Day Program, 2 for Distance Learning, and one Literacy Specialist, and one Special Education Coordinator.
BDEA's student support team includes 2 staff for the Evening Program, and 5 staff for the Day Program. The rest of the staff is comprised of administrative support staff, security staff, and a development associate.
About our teachers:
- 100% of our faculty members are characterized by the state as highly qualified, defined, according to the No Child Left Behind Act, as having successfully obtained MA licensure, and demonstrating proficiency in their core subject area.
- 19 faculty members hold or are in the process of completing advanced degrees in subject areas and education.
- 9 faculty members hold dual certification, 6 of which are certified in Special Education.
- 17 faculty members have 5 or more years of teaching experience, with 8 members at 10 or more years.
- 15 faculty members have been at BDEA for 2 or more years, 10 for 4 or more years.
About student support:
- Of the 7 student support members, 4 have been with BDEA for 5 or more years.
- BDEA has two fulltime SST members who are Licensed Clinical Social Workers
- BDEA has Student Support Interns from local social work programs including Boston College School of Social Work.
Leadership Team
- The Leadership Team is comprised of the head of school, the assistant head of school, the director of curriculum and instruction, the dean of student support, and the director of institutional advancement. The team meets weekly and engages in two retreats annually. The work of the Leadership Team is to examine issues of school sustainability and student success and to address concerns as they are identified by faculty, staff, students, parents, and the members of the team. Coaching for the leadership team and for the co-heads of school is provided through the Coalition of Essential Schools.
