Curriculum Overview

Boston Day and Evening Academy (BDEA), a member of the Coalition for Essential Schools, provides small, supportive educational settings for students, aged 16-23 who have not been successful in other schools. BDEA is devoted to preparing students for bright, productive futures. To this end, BDEA teaches students to develop certain habits of mind, important learning behaviors which will help them to become lifelong problem solvers.

The graduate of BDEA will be an independent reader, an independent writer, and an independent problem solver. A student may enter the school needing support and regular coaching, but when he or she is finished with the program the student will be an independent learner.

Using a competency-based system, students will progress towards a high school diploma by completing three steps:

STEP 1:Successful Completion of MCAS
