BDEA Mission

The Boston Day and Evening Academy is an innovative, year-round public high school, founded in 1995, that serves a unique population of students who are over-age for grade level and at high risk for dropping out. Working with experienced faculty in an environment that blends strong academics and support, students are given the tools to earn a Boston Public School diploma and reach their fullest potential through a competency-based curriculum that inspires critical and creative thinking, independent learning, and active citizenship.

Vision Statement

By 2015, Boston Day and Evening Academy will be known for its success in providing competency-based education for Boston's over-age students and preparing them for further education and/or careers. BDEA will be known nationally, and internationally, as a school that offers students who are at the highest risk of dropping out, or who have already left school, the chance to earn a high school diploma and graduate as skilled, confident, and optimistic young adults.

Over ten years, given the necessary staff, financial, and facility resources, BDEA will grow to serve up to 600 students through Day, Evening, and Distance Learning programs. As BDEA grows, we will target a small class size with a range of 12-15 students per teacher, continue to be competency-based, and provide and individualized approach to education. BDEA will also offer expanded "wrap around" academic support services so that students can address barriers that impede academic success.
